Model Profile: Christian Matthews

By Dave Griffiths

This month’s theme of “masculinity” has taken some different looks at what it is to truly be masculine. So for our cover, we decided we wanted to have Christian Matthews, a relative newcomer to the adult industry, grace our cover and speak about his life and career. Christian has recently started getting into the modeling/adult industry and he is definitely a masculine and sexy guy. Most people would have thought we would have a muscled, daddy bear on our cover this month, but we thought, since the true test of a masculine guy is not about how hairy a man is, or the muscles that he gets from hours of working out at the gym, that Christian is the ideal masculine man. The Statue of David by Michelangelo was the representation of what he thought was the perfect male form, and we here at HIM Magazine feel that Christian resembles that form and with his positive attitude, responsible, and hard working nature, he was our top pick for this month’s cover. We sat down with Christian and asked him about his life, his career, and his future.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 Where are you from?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 I was born in Michigan. I moved to Florida when I was just one year-old and lived on the West Coast of Florida until 2011 when I moved to Fort Lauderdale.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 When did you begin modeling/acting?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 As a child, I did a few modeling gigs. After moving to Fort Lauderdale and going through a devastating split from my ex-partner and a severe car accident, I was given a second chance. I decided to call ChiChi Larue. She passed me on to Howard at Fabscout. From there, I decided to take matters into my own hands and go in the direction that I wanted to and it has worked out for me. I have been actively acting in the adult film industry for about six to eight months now and loving every minute of it!

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 What was your first modeling job?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 I got my first acting job with Studio Cody (See last month’s Lifestyle Interview; The Man of Studio Cody) and we did a few shoots for MyHusbandIsGay.com and ButchDixon.com.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 How does it make you feel to be a cover model?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 Of course, being a cover model is great! I was very humbled and flattered when I was asked. At first I thought it was a joke, but hey, I will take it as a compliment.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 What else interests you?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 I love the gym! My interests vary. I am always open to trying new things. I am an adrenaline junkie and enjoy roller coasters, extreme sports, and traveling to far off and exciting locales. I could take a good heart pumping thrill over standing around a bar any day.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 What doors has modeling opened up for you?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 Good question. Being a cover model is one, for starters. I am enjoying the travel opportunities that have come up. It is great to be able to meet some of the guys I have looked up to in the industry; that’s amazing! I have been blessed to build a great relationship with one of my idols in the industry, Chad Brock.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 What has been the highlight of your career so far?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 I feel like I’m one of the most insecure people I know and never thought anybody would want to watch and see me naked. So to gain a certain amount of courage and confidence to pursue this dream is a huge highlight. My boyfriend, who is in the industry as well, is a huge inspiration to me. Never, in a thousand years, would I have ever dreamed this would be my life!

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 Does your family know? Are they supportive?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 Nope. My family does not know. I will have to cross that bridge when I need to. But doing more mainstream things like being a cover model of a gay men’s magazine like HIM Magazine is a great way for me to break the ice with them when I need to. Until then…

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 Have you worked with some big names in the industry?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 For me, yeah, they’re all huge names! I have shot with two well-known directors, Victor Cody and Tobii Chase, as well as David Romero and Alex Powers for Hairyandraw.com. I am on board to work with Tyler Reed at RawJoxxx.com in April. I have agreed to work with Nick Moretti and have agreed to do Barebackthathole.com for Ricky Raunch. Chad Brock and I are getting the details ironed out for some future work together. I have also just signed a deal to work with Colin O’Neale’s World of Men when I return from my latest trip to Chicago in March.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 Do you have a mantra or a life philosophy that you live by?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 Gosh, a philosophy? I suppose passion is free from reason. What works for me, may kill you, one day at a time.

DaveGriffiths_now_jan13 What do you have coming up that our readers should keep an eye out for?

christianmatthews_thumb_mar13 The video I shot for Hairy & Raw is coming out soon and I will be shooting with Tyler Reed in April. My other work is under way, as well, but you’ll just have to follow me on Twitter or Facebook to find out more. I can’t give out my secrets all at once!
